Covid Passion Project - Quilted Waistcoat

While the coronavirus put a break on the theatre industry, I worked on various projects that I had wanted to do for a long time. This quilted waitcoat is one of them. All the quilting and construction is done by hand on silk with wool batting and a cotton back and lining.

While the coronavirus put a break on the theatre industry, I worked on various projects that I wanted to do for a long time. This hand-painted frockoat is one of them. The painting allowed me to look at a decorating technique that would be less expensive and time consuming than hand embroidery.

" As well as supervising this production, I made the feathered robe for Oberon and well as Puck's two-tone breeches. Together with Georgia Smithers I made the other fairies and most of the rest of the costumes for this show."

National Theatre Hire Department - 18th Century Dresses

I made two 18th Century dresses for the Hire Department. For both dresses I created matching underskirts and frilled lace cuffs. Re:Sound - Thousand Furs

"I made the red robe for the queen, which had to come apart into three pieces as she dies, and the reverse of the robe is a patchwork of brown shades which become the ground in which Maria later plants flowers. I made the collar pieces for the ensemble, which again were reversible. I also helped with the construction of the thousand-furs coat by creating the foundation for the furs to be added to. "I made the coat for Idamante and for the 4 'doppelgangers' in the childrens' chorus. I also made Arbace ceremonal robe and did a alteration to Idomeneo's jacket by creating a gold collar and gold detail."

"I made the costume for the Prince which included a reversible jacket (gold on one side and grey on the other), a shirt and breeches. For Oscar I made the shirt and waistcoat. For the Swallow I altered the leotard by adding lace the front and making a tail out of lace which attached to the blue feather shorts."

"I made the trousers for the character of Lumen, and for the two male Ensemble members. I also made the white dresses for the two female Ensemble members. For the character of Scura I added the skirt of a different dress into the jumpsuit and did alterations to improve its fit. "

"I did the alterations to a store-brought jumpsuit, which lacked support and kept sliding down. I added support by creating a bandeau bra and sewing it into the jumpsuit. I also added straps to help the dancer feel more secure."

"I made the doublet and trunkhose for the character of James I. It was interesting to be working with period costume and, because the actor gets dressed on stage, it was a good challenge to make the inside look as good as the outside."

"As Costume Assistant I made the blouse for the character of Rollo, who plays, dancers and somersaults as a garden spirit. Other tasks as assistant included helping with alterations laundry and I was dresser for this show."

"During a two week placement I helped with the preparation of two tutus for a fitting. For the first I joined the lengths to form the different layers. For the second I constructed the full tutu, using the first one as a guide. The photo on the right show the two tutus side by side. The one of the right is made by the workroom, the one of the left is made by me."

"I made a formal black dress for the character of Liberty, a shop assistant in Liberty. The dress closes at the back with hook and eye. The shop name is embroidered on the front of the dress."
